NextMedia 2008 was held at the Banff Springs hotel in early-June. The group from Fission took in some great sessions, scenery, food and friends over the weekend. Blaine and Tom stayed for Banff International Television Festival the following week.

Filming Air One at Take-off
FMG was busy filming a training video for Edmonton Fire Rescue with the Edmonton Police Service - Air One helicopter when they received notice that a wild-land fire threatened to burn out of control south of the city. Air One and our camera crew raced to the scene to shoot valuable training footage right on the site of the fire. No homes were destroyed, and the fire was soon contained with the help of the new up-link monitor the crew were filming.

Blaine just got back from the Kidscreen conference in New York City. Held right in the middle of Manhattan, this conference was a great introduction to the new media possibilities in the kids' space.
The Museum of Modern Art, a couple of Broadway plays and a taping of the Late Show with David Letterman highlighted an extensive tour of Manhattan.

The Digital Alberta Mission to China offered us market access, market intelligence and key contacts in the Chinese business community. Beginning in Hong Kong at Cyberport, Blaine's trip extended to meetings and events in Hangzhou and Shanghai, followed by a brief stop in Beijing to visit some of the sites.
Although the trip was a whirlwind, it was a truly exciting time filled with great people, places and food.

Tom, Blaine and Mark spent a week in Banff at NextMedia and Banff TV. The two conferences explored convergent media as well as opportunities in the broadcast industry.

The SXSW Music, Interactive and Film conference brought together musicians, designers, filmmakers and a whole lot of other people into Austin Texas. I spent a week in the Texas sun at SXSW, as well as, the Canada-Texas Partnering Forum.
Our group from Canada met an amazing number of interesting and talented people.
